The future of ad-supported content is in peril, and with it, free access for citizens to critical news, education, discourse and resources the world over. The shorthand name for this looming catastrophe is "adblocking", but the root problems and solutions for users and publishers are more complex than ad reinsertion.

We are passionate about the power of free content to empower people and change the world for the good. As fanatics about ad quality in our prior products, we understand the growth of adblockers, but believe they are largely a blunt instrument for a multi-faceted relationship between publishers and users. Publishers are different, advertisers are different and, most importantly, users are different — none of which are best-served by the typical default adblock approach. We can all do better.
